Mason offers the following enterprise collaboration platforms on any device, anywhere, anytime: Microsoft Teams to faculty and staff; and, Webex Teams to faculty, staff, and students. Both service offerings provide chat, audio and video calling, screen sharing, and calendar integration—within and outside the team structure.
Cisco Webex service offerings are being phased out at Mason to provide a more streamlined set of services. Alternate solutions are available including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Blackboard Collaborate. See Webex Retirement Roadmap for details. If you believe you still require a Webex account, submit a Webex Meetings Support request form to be reviewed by ITS.
Note: Microsoft Teams is an evolving service; settings within Teams may change with little to no notice as the ITS Project Team makes adjustments for security, compliance, or performance reasons.
Microsoft (MS) Teams is an enterprise-wide collaboration suite that lives within Mason’s Office 365 environment. At its core, MS Teams provides chat, audio calling, video calling, screen share, and more with individuals and groups outside of a team structure. Within the structure of a formal team, team members have access to all of that as well as several additional Office 365 shared features: email, calendar, notebook with OneNote, shared file storage with SharePoint integrated with your OneDrive, Planner, and more within Team Sites. MS Teams is available via a web browser, desktop application, and mobile app.
Webex Teams is an enterprise-grade collaboration application. Whether on the go, at a desk, or together in a meeting room, Webex Teams helps speed up projects, build better relationships, and solve business challenges.
Move work forward in secure workspaces where everyone can contribute anytime, from any device, with messaging, file sharing, screen sharing, white-boarding, video meetings, calling, and more. Send important information via direct and team messages, where they can be read and responded to right away or flagged for follow up later. Keeping track of conversations is easy, all your messages are saved in the same space where you meet. You can customize your notifications, so you only get alerts about messages that matter to you. You can use filters to zero in on spaces where you've been mentioned, and read receipts show you who has checked in.
Information on accessibility features in Webex Teams can be found on Cisco’s Help Center.
